History
The Strathmill distillery was built in 1891 on the estate of a converted flour mill. At this time, however, she received the name Glenisla-Glenlivet. It was not until 1985, when it was bought by W. & A. Gilbey Ltd, that its name was renamed Strathmill.
The wave of mergers in the early 1960s, Gilbey initially did with Justerini & Brooks and they founded the IDV. In 1975, this went to the Metropolitan, who founded in 1997 with Guiness the Diageo Group.

Production
In 1968, the capacity of the distillery was increased by the installation of two more stills. The required barley malt is delivered, stored in large silos and ground by a Miag mill (German product with 6 rolls) to grist.
Most of the Strathmill whiskeys are used for J & B blends. Rarely is it bottled as a single malt.

The storage
Strathmill malts are almost exclusively bottled in ex-bourbon barrels. For this purpose, they are transported in tank trucks to the warehouses of the Auchroisk Distillery and stored there as well. Only a small part is brought back to Strathmill and stored in the low storehouses with natural soils.
