History
The Old Pulteney Distillery was founded in 1826 by James Henderson and licensed. For almost 100 years she remained in the family, from 1920, several owner changes.
From the company James Watson & Co., she moved in 1923 to John Deware & Sons, which in 1925 passed into the possession of the DCL. In 1930, the distillery was shut down and reopened in 1951 by R. Cumming & Sons. Also because of prohibition (absolute prohibition of alcohol) in this part of Scotland, from 1922 to 1947, the distillery had to be shut down.
1955 was another takeover by the James & George Stodart & Co., which came in 1961 by further mergers in the possession of Allied Distillers.
Since 1995, Old Pulteney belongs to Inver House Distillers Ltd.

Production
After a complete renovation in 1958/1959, the malt house was closed. The required malt is delivered by large malting plants and ground to grist in the old Porteus mill.
It is worth mentioning that Pulteney still produces without a computer.

The storage
The malt of the Pulteney Distillery is stored in the warehouses on the distillery grounds
For maturation, the whisky is filled into ex-bourbon and ex-sherry barrels.
