History
The Loch Lomond Distillery was founded in 1965/1966 by the Littlemill Distillery Company. An old dyeing plant in the industrial area of Alexandria was rebuilt to run a whiskey distillery. It produces both malt whiskey and grain whiskey.
The distillery went to Barton Brands (USA) in 1971 through the acquisition of Littlemill Distillery Co. In 1982, Amalgates Distilled Products plc (ADP) became the new owner, who closed Loch Lomond two years later and sold it to the Scottish company Loch Lomond Distillery Co. in 1985. They used the distillery from 1987 to produce the whiskey for their large blending company, Glen Catrine Bonded Warehouse.
Loch Lomond has been owned by Exponent Private Equity LLP since 2014 and continues to operate as Loch Lomond Group.

Production
The required malt is supplied by large malting and stored in large silos, before is processed in a modern malt mill to grist.
The Loch Lomond Distillery not only produces un-peated whiskeys, but also whiskeys peated one month per year, and is the only distillery to produce malt and grain whiskey.
By the height-adjustable plates (which can also be removed) inside the special stills, whiskeys can be made with different flavors. These are brought to market with different names.

The storage
The malt and grain whiskeys are stored in the distillery's approximately 30 warehouses. The ripening takes place on high shelves, where the grains are stored standing in their barrels.
