Glenfiddich

History

The Glenfiddich distillery was built in 1886 by William Grant after he had bought a piece of land on the River Fiddich in Dufftown. He did not have much money, so he had to build the distillery with his own hands, along with his wife and nine children. On Christmas Eve, 1887, the very first Glenfiddich whiskey flowed from the stills.

In 1903 William Grant and his sons founded the family company William Grant & Sons. Glenfiddich is now one of the oldest family run distilleries in Scotland.

Even during the two world wars, the distillery was allowed to continue producing, unlike many other distilleries.

Production

Glenfiddich was rebuilt and rebuilt over the years. Today it produces in 31 stills, which are directly heated with gas.

The distillery has its own cooperage in which new barrels are built and broken barrels are repaired. In addition, Glenfiddich has its own department for bottling its typical triangular bottle, which has been around since 1957.

The storage

The malts of the Glenfiddich distillery are stored in 45 warehouses in the immediate vicinity. For the maturation of the whiskey you use especially ex-bourbon barrels but also ex-sherry casks and new oak barrels.
