The history
The Glencadam Distillery was founded in 1825 by George Cooper. Two years later he sold it to David Scott because of financial problems. Other changes of ownership followed, but these have not been documented accurately enough.
The Glencadam Distillery Company bought the distillery in 1857 and the company became the property of Gilmour Thomson & Co. in 1891 - a blending company based in Edinburgh.
When Glencadam changed ownership with Hiram Walker in 1954, their management passed to their Scottish subsidiary George Ballantine & Co.
Again, the distillery was taken over when Hiram Walker sold his entire liquor store to the later Allied Domecq. The company Stewart & Sons. from Dundee received the order from Allied Domecq to run the distillery.
Due to overflowing warehouses Glencadam was shut down in the year 2000. At the end of 2003, it resumed operations after Angus Dundee Distillers plc became the new owner.
