History
The Glen Scotia Distillery was founded in 1832 by the Galbraith family and put into operation three years later. By the time the distillery was acquired by Stewart, Galbraith & Co. in 1895, it was family-owned.
In 1919, the distillery was sold to the West Highland Malt Distillers (WHMD), but these went broke in 1924. The manager Duncan MacCallum tried to save the distillery, but had to give up in 1928. He committed suicide in 1930.
From 1933 to 1954, Glen Scotia was successfully owned by Bloch Brothers Ltd until it was sold to Hiram Walker in 1954. Just one year later, she changed ownership again and fell to the company A. Gillies & Co., which itself was founded in 1970 by Amalgamated Distillers Products Ltd. was acquired. Despite extensive renovations in 1984, the closure of the distillery.
Only with the acquisition of the distillery by Gibson International started production in 1989, but also this company had to register in 1994 Kokurs. The current owner, Glen Catrine Bonded Warehouse, ultimately bought the bankruptcy estate consisting of the distillery and the stored whiskey. However, since 2002, whiskey is regularly burned again.
