History

The Isle of Jura Distillery was founded in 1810 by Archibald Campbell. Long before, at the beginning of the 17th century, the Isle of Jura was known for its black burning.

It was not until 1831 that William Abercombie acquired the license for the name Isle of Jura Distillery. It is not clear under which owner was produced at that time.

From 1975, James Ferguson and his sons leased the distillery and the license was registered under their name. At the beginning of the 20th century James Ferguson could no longer pay his lease, so the company had to be discontinued and the Fergusons dismantled their facilities.

Only in 1958 did the two locals Robin Fletcher and Tony Riley-Smith together to rebuild the distillery, they were supported by the company Mackinlay McPearson Ltd. In 1963, the Isle of Jura was able to resume production.

Invergordon Distilleries Ltd became the new owner of the distillery in 1985. It was acquired by White & Mackay Ltd in 1994 and handed over to the Kyndal Group in 2001, which changed its name to White & Mackay Ltd two years later.

In 2007, United Spirits Ltd. bought the company with all brands and distilleries on. Since 2014 White & Mackay Ltd. belongs. together with the Jura distillery the brandy manufacturer Emperador Inc.
