History
The Glenglassaugh Distillery was built in 1875 by Glenglassaugh Distillery Co. Ltd and its associates James Moir, Alexander and William Morrison and Thomas Wilson.
Soon Alexander Morrison was the only founder left, all others let their share pay off. In 1892 he had to sell the distillery because of financial problems. The new owner was Robertson & Baxter Ltd, which resold Glenglassaugh to Highland Distillers Co. Ltd. in the same year.
From 1907 to 1960 the distillery remained closed. Due to the poor condition of the buildings and warehouses, a total demolition and rebuilding was decided that lasted nearly four years.
Already in 1986, the distillery was closed again and the license was deleted in 1992. Only after it was bought by the Scaent Group from Amsterdam (NL) and the director Stuart Nickerson merged with the whiskey maker Graham Eunson, was distilled in December 2008 again.
In 2011, Eunson left the distillery and two years later, the BenRiach Distillery Co. with Billy Walker as head, new owner.

Production
Since 1964 Glenglassaugh no longer malts by themselves. Various large malting plants, such as those of the Tamdhu distillery, supply the needed malt. In an old malt mill, the barley is ground to grist.
Since 2009, Glenglassaugh has also distilled a peated whiskey whose production share is around 5 percent.
