History
The Glen Grant Distillery was founded in 1940 by John and James Grant. It was the first distillery in the town of Rothes, named Drumbain. The two brothers soon renamed them Glen Grant.
James Grant's older son built 1897/1898 across the street another distillery he called 'Glen Grant 2'. Until Glen Grant 2 was shut down in 1902 (reopened in 1965 as Caperdonich Distillery), both distilleries were connected by a pipeline.
When James Grant jr. died in 1931, his grandson, Douglas MacKessack, succeeded him. After a merger with George & J.G. Smith of Glenlivet in 1953, Glen Grant became a part of The Glenlivet & Glen Grant Distillers Ltd. Another merger followed in 1972, it was the result of The Glenlivet Distillers Ltd, which was acquired in 1977 by the Canadian company Seagram Co. Ltd.
From 2001 to 2005, Glen Grant belonged to Pernod Ricard, after the acquisition of Allied Domecq but the distillery had to be sold for competitive reasons.
Today she belongs to the Italian Davide Milano Campari S.p.A..
