History
The Dufftown Distillery was founded in 1895 by the newly formed company Dufftown-Glenlivet Distillery Co. in an old, converted flour mill. At the time, there were already five distilleries in Dufftown.
One of the founders, Peter Mackenzie, took over the distillery in 1897 alone. He already owned the Blair Athol Distillery in Pitlochry with his company Peter Mackanzie & Co. In 1933, his company went to Arthur Bell & Sons Ltd., which was acquired in 1985 by Guinness.
After Guinness merged with the DCL in 1986, Dufftown became part of the UDV and thus from 1997 part of the large company Diageo plc.
