History

The Dalmore distillery was founded in 1839 by Alexander Matherson and leased to the Sutherland family in the same year. During the 1860s, Robert Pattison bought the distillery and leased it in 1867 to the three brothers Alexander, Andrew and Charles Mackenzie. After the death of Pattinson, the Mackanzies were able to buy Dalmore from one of his heirs for £ 14,500. For almost a century, the distillery was family owned by the Mackanzie clan, Scottish nobility.

During the First World War Dalmore was used by the Royal Navi for the production of deep-sea mines and all warehouses had to be evacuated. The explosion of an expression and the resulting fire destroyed much of the distillery. Only after reconstruction and restoration Dalmore was able to resume production in 1922.

In 1960, Dalmore merged with White & Mackay Distillers Ltd. This was again taken over in 1996 by the later Beam Inc. (USA) and sold in 2001 to the Kyndal Group. The company was again in 2003 in Whyte & Mackay Ltd. renamed.

In 2007, White & MAckay and its distilleries were acquired by United Spirits Limited, a subsidiary of the Indian The UB Group. On October 31, 2014, Whyte & Mackay was sold to the Philippine Emperador Inc..

Production

In 1874, Dalmore was expanded for the first time and capacity was doubled by the installation of two more stills that found their place in a second stillhouse. In 1966, the number of stills was increased again by four.

Dalmore's floor maltings were replaced in 1956 with a mechanical malting unit (Saladin box). Since 1982, the required malt has been sourced from large malting plants.
